TSIFA RICE
Rice is staple food of Madagascar. TSIFA collect local rice for business and relief action. So far, the trade of rice is not profitable for business as it has a very high fixed charge and small margin. It requires a big logistics, warehouse all year along, good means of transportation and it is very sensitive to climate. Despite all, it helps to keep the community whole together. Each family has their small parcel of rice field that ensure their annual needs of food. They sell rice when they need money. Some of them sell rice during the harvest time and buy rice later. No exportation of rice is possible as, every year, Madagascar imports rice from India and China in addition to the national production. Malagasy people eat rice three times a day! TSIFA rice commitment is rather for a community engagement against the hunger than business product.
